Author's Review
A buddy of mine bought a whistler 1655 a month ago and seemed to be pretty thrilled with it. My current radar detector (a whistler 1125) had been a very accurate and reliable device for over 8 years and I decided it was about time to get a new one. Having had great luck with my previous Whistler and having seen first hand the features of the 1655 I decided to buy it. Big Mistake.

The Voice alerts and features were great and the device was easy enough to use, but the first day I used it I noticed that when it went detected a Ka band alert it would not stop beeping. It just kept sounding off until I shut it off. This happened no matter where I was (no it was not the local supermarkets and yes I did have the City Mode activated). I just figured the thing was really sensitive and that there was a cop a mile down the road with his radar on. But then the next day about a minute after I had turned the device on it started going crazy again. I turned it off and turned it back on and it would be fine until 10 or 15 minutes later. Then the same thing would happen. When in town it would false constantly as well, something my 1125 seldom did. I put up with this for one week then took it back to Best Buy, where I exchanged it for a Cobra 9100.

I asked my buddy with the same model what kind of problems (if any) he had with his and he said it wouldn't stay on constantly like mine was doing but it did go off at every truckstop and rest stop when he was on the road. Other than that he had no complaints. Maybe I did get a faulty product but because Best Buy is not the easiest place to return items I didn't want to get the same model in case I were to have problems with the new one also. I am pretty disappointed because I had my old Whistler 1125 for so long and never had any problems, but I guess things like that happen sometimes.
