Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Attractive Styling, good reliability and value if you purchase preowned.

Cons: Handling belies it's sporty good looks

The Bottom Line:
Buy it if your looking for a touring convertible, but don't expect sport car performance.

Author's Review
Looking for a 4 seat convertible, I felt Volvo offered a visually attractive model. I felt the Mercedes was a little overpriced and BMW a little too popular. My golf buddy commented today that it's a very handsome car, top up or down and you don't see very many in town. I've received many positive comments from folks while at stop lights.

I purchased this through Ebay a year ago November. It's had no problems even though it had nearly 70k highway miles during 2 years of service prior to my purchase. I paid $20,700 delivered to my door.

The only complaints are as follows. If you're thinking it's a sports car, it's not. Despite it's low profile tires, it doesn't corner very well. Moreover, under hard acceleration, it's very difficult to get any traction from a stop. The 5 cylinder turbo generates plenty of torque, but it's unusable at low speed or coming out of corners. Hit a bump and it feels like the entire chassis flexes. This is apparently common in convertibles, but expected better rigidity from Volvo.

Despite it's lousy handling in dry weather under hard loads, it surprised me and handled surprisingly well during the snow, go figure.

Local, somewhat spirited driving on Long Island averages about 19 MPG with a 5 speed manual.

All in all, it's a great deal of fun, can economically transport my family of 3, and still provides the confidence that you are traveling safe in a Volvo.
