Pros: fuel efficiency, agility, great brakes, good build quality, comfort at long haul.
Cons: lack of body rigidity, rattle, squeaks; bad dealers service in California but great in connecticut
Bottom Line:
The best commuter's car. Watch out for dealer service stations inexperience with TDI service. Use all synthetic oil for DIESELl (not gas) engines such as Delvac from Mobil.

I would highly recommend VW diesel vehicles to individuals who want to get better fuel economy, have the potential to depend on domestic BioDiesel, and enjoy fine German engineering.

Cons: The Diesel engine sounds like a truck.
Bottom Line:
Just like everyone else says - Economy and zip. Throw a box modification in like I did and Japanese competitors will eat your shorts.
