Pros: Easy to drive especially for first time drivers. Easy to maintain and safe.
Cons: Really small car. Check engine comes on even when nothings wrong.
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this car to parent's for a child's first car. People who love small, fast, fun cars. AWESOME CAR.
I've had my 2002 Beetle for about 2 years and I can't say many bad things about it. So far my beetle has been through 2 accidents both should've totaled my car and hurt me pretty bad but suprisingly my car had minimal damage and the other cars had thousands of dollars worth of damage (none of these accidents were my fault, both were drunk drivers). I also love the fact that there are airbags throughout the car, it's not just in the front. The body frame is very strong and I heard from a few dealers the reason for this is because all Volkswagens are made with "virgin metal" (metal that's never been used before). I've never had any serious problems with the engine, the check engine light comes on occasionally and everytime I take it to a shop they say nothing is wrong. One thing I love about this car is the gas mileage I get out of it. Being a college student I constantly drive back and forth to school as well as all over the bay area all week long and at the end of the week my gas tank is usually still over 1/4th a tank. This car is very easy to maintain as well since the 2 years I've had it I did one tune up, multiple oil changes, and checking the water about every month. Other then that I've never had to change anything else except my tires. Also, if you take your beetle or any Volkswagon car to a Volkswagen dealership they'll run your car through their car wash for free! (at least the 3 dealerships close to my house to that) For being 7 years old my Beetle runs great.
