The 2001 Volkswagen Golf is available in five hatchback models: GL, GL TDI, GLS, GLS TDI, and GLS 1.8T. The GL TDI and GLS TDI are powered by a 1.9L 90-hp turbocharged diesel engine. When equipped with the five-speed manual transmission and TDI diesel engine, the Golf achieves an efficient 42 mpg city and 49 mpg highway. A four-speed automatic transmission is optional on all models. Safety features include front and side air bags and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Additional options include a Cold Weather Package, a Luxury Package, and a Monsoon sound system package. Volkswagen provides free regularly scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years/24,000 miles, and also offers a powertrain warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles.
