the plastic part

Pros: great pictures; my first digital; okay for a small child use; great night vision shots
Cons: plastic hinges on the battery/card/USB compartment; not a secure battery contact
The Bottom Line:
Recommend to a friend but I would tell them about the plastic hinged compartment
I purchased my Vivitar 3705 from Target, about 4 years ago for $79 on sale. I had Vivitar 3705 cameras before, so this was a bonus.
The battery/disk compartment was a hassle. When the disk was to be downloaded/read, the batteries "pop" up, thus everything needed to be reset. My Granddaughter was born in 2004, but the camera default 2003.
Pictures were taken in all type of scenery. They usually were excellent. The "night" vision image was by far the best I have seen or even come close to in any other camera. Children have a way of being "spooky" in the dark, when they are awake. The lights and the room were totally dark, and the night vision picture got a perfect shot.
The compartment also had plastic closures. When the plastic hinge broke the compartment had to be "taped" down. After awhile the taped closure bent the battery contacts because when you removed the tape, to open the compartment the batteries would be ready to "jump" out. The battery contacts came loose, to the point it snagged on the memory card also trying to jump out.
Even the USB was located in that small compartment. Wear and tear on the plastics was a mis-develpoment for this camera. I did not contact the manufacturer because I "up graded" to another better camera. But if I should I would definitely argue for a better closure.
All my future digital cameras had battery, card and USB in different areas, without comprising either.
