Nice inexpensive camera for a beginner. If some simple features and the 1Mega Pixel are enough, this is a great buy.
OK, so I went wrong with the Argus DC3200. I bought the Vivitar from CVS' web site via a special offer. Received it by mail within a couple of days. The initial impression is good - the camera comes well packed and is inside a small bag that looks like a mini toiletry or hand bag. It would be nice to have a lens cover, but I guess with the small size of the camera (fits easily into a jacket pocket) and with the bag for protection it's not all that bad; time will tell. The camera has a nice size and fits well in my hands. It uses 2 AA batteries and they're easy to place. Access for the cables (UBS & TV) is hidden behind a rubber cover. The button layout is good. The viewfinder is fairly exact - I seemed to get in the picture what I had in the viewfinder. You also get the preview of the picture in the LCD, although the LCD display is dimmer than what you actually get (I was testing in a room, therefore the preview was dim but the flash made the actual picture properly lighted). The 2x digital Zoom works OK & once you go into 2x mode, you see things closer in the LCD preview. The camera has red-eye reduction and a self timer. The flash mode and self-timer indicators are the only bad thing about the menu display - they're small arrows at the top that lign up with pictures on the camera body and aren't very visible if there's light shining on the display. The menus in the LCD are fairly well laid out and I haven't had any trouble making most of the features work by just playing. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to replay the movies (yes, the camera can take small amounts of movies). DOn't know about the durability yet, but it feels fairly sturdy, so I'm giving it an Average for the time being.
