Pros: Attractive styling, Windows desktop looks good.
Cons: Terrible ghosting in games
The Bottom Line:
Ghosting is unacceptable in games
Let me start by saying that I'm a hardcore gamer that doesn't have much experience with LCD monitors. After reading that a LCD monitor with a 16ms refresh rate or less is "good" for gaming, I decided to try this monitor out.
First impressions were positive. The monitor sure looked pretty nice sitting on my desk and the text in Windows XP was crystal clear. Sweet! Then it was time to check out the games...
First up was World of Warcraft. It's not really a "fast paced" game so I figured this monitor would at least handle a game of this type just fine. Boy was I wrong! The ghosting was absolutely unacceptable! The color, brightness and contrast were fine, but the ghosting was just terrible. To make sure it wasn't just WoW I tried Doom 3 as well, and it was just as bad or worse. Maybe all 16ms monitors have the same amount of ghosting, but if that's the case well then the hardware venders still have some work to do.
With that said, I'm going to give a Sony (always had good luck with Sonys) 16ms LCD monitor a try to see if it's any better. I'm going to look into the less than 16ms monitors too. Anyway, thank god for lenient return policies!
