once you go wide you can't go back

Pros: Everything. Design, performance, price.

Cons: My only regret is that I didn't jump to the 23 inch monitor.

The Bottom Line:
Good build quality, high quality LCD panel, widescreen computing is incredible, low price point.

So here's to the best monitor I have owned to date.

Now the most common comparison this will draw is with Apple's own 20.1 inch display. This is especially so since they use the same LG Phillips LCD panel.

The key difference among the two is the reported pixel response rate. Dell lists the monitor at 12ms and Apple reports it at 16ms despite them using the exact same panel. As I don't have the proper equipment/knowledge to exactly test this kind of claim, what I do know is that subjectively the response rate has never been a problem for me. I watch a lot of DVD's and play a lot of games on this panel, and I have seen absolutely no ghosting and zero motion blur. It is the clearest panel I have owned to date.

I mentioned I watch a lot of DVD's on this, and the widescreen action really kicks in with this. As most movies are in a 16:9 aspect ratio, the 16:10 ratio of the monitor really increases the size of movies. I am able to comfortably watch movies from as far as 10-15 feet away with no complaints.

Games also benefit from the added pixels. If supported (you will have to check whether or it not it is able to play in widescreen, and widescreengamingforums.com is a good place to start) the games look quite brilliant and can really add to the immersion of a game. The only better thing I can imagine is a multi-panel setup, but that can be quite costly.

Ergonomics on this monitor is also quite well done. There are two USB 2.0 ports on the right side of the monitor and on the back. All are easily accessible because the monitor swivels and tilts so you can reach the ports easily. The on screen menu on this monitor is also easy to use and understand.

My switch to this monitor is something that I love and absolutely do not regret. I highly recommend this monitor and I can confidently say that anyone who switches to it will love it. The only drawback, especially if you play games, is that you should make sure your video card can support it. Gaming in WSXGA+ can be a strain due to the added number of pixels. But if you can do it, you absolutely should go for it.
