Pros: Great Music, New Characters, New Weapons!
Cons: The levels are small, Hard to beat on one player.
The Bottom Line:
Twisted Metal 3 is a great game. Some may think Twisted Metal 2 is better though.
When I first received my Playstation back in the Christmas of '99, this (Twisted Metal 3) was one of the first few games I had gotten with it. My parents had bought me about 8 games and to suprise I played Twisted Metal 3 the most. I loved the game! It was so much fun and I played it many many days before I played other things. I first had played Twisted Metal 2 at my uncles (guile176) and I loved it. Unfortunately I had to play against him and he always beat me. So I said I hated the game. That was until I received part 3 for Christmas. I was able to experience Twist Metal playing on the one player mode. I didn't care at the time even though I knew it but there are a lot of flaws in part 3 from part 2. The biggest loss was the level size. Yes, in Twisted Metal 3 the levels were smaller then Twisted Metal 2. However, to make up for that, 989 Studios had put better music, new characters, and new weapons! I guess all that could make up for the loss of the level size.
Tournament: You can play the tournament with one or two players. The two players will team up against all the other cars. This mode consists of eight levels of gameplay. To finish a level you must destroy all other cars on the level. Your enemy vehicles are automatically chosen and their skill increases with each level you complete. The tournament ends when you run out of all your lives or you complete all eight levels. You can say yes or no to the following:
CPU ALLY: Lets you play with a computer-assisted ally to help you annihilate you competitors. You will not see ending movies when using a CPU Ally.
POOL LIVES: Lets you share your total number of lives with your co-op player. When either player dies, the collective number of lives decreases.
Death Match: A deathmatch is a 1 - 4 player game. You go against other players for fun. You may also have computer controlled cars in the battle to. To win, just simply destroy all other cars. When the battle is over you may restart it or go back to the title screen. Depending on the level, you may select up to seven enemy cars by pressing the X button.
Vehicles: Their is a total of 16 different cars in the game. Four of them are bosses which two of them you cannot play as. The other two bosses can be played as but I don't know how.
This following section is a list of the cars:
Mr. Grimm (playable)
Auger (playable)
Spectre (playable)
FireStarter (playable)
Flower Power (playable)
Thumper (playable)
Minion (boss, hidden)
HammerHead (playable)
Axel (playable)
RoadKill (playable)
Warthog (playable)
OutLaw (playable)
Sweet Tooth (boss, hidden)
Club Kid (playable)
Dark Side (boss, not playable)
Primeval (boss, not playable)
Battle Grounds: Their is over 10 stages that you can wreck havoc on. However, only 8 are open at the start of the game. The others are all hidden. Also in almost every level their are some electrical traps you can et that are quite shocking!
The following section is a list of the battle grounds:
HOLLYWOOD - A giant earthquake took place and now the place has never been the same.
WASHINGTON D.C. - Wreck havoc in the small, but fun front yard of the White House!
HANGAR 18 - Now you get to fight around a giant UFO! You can even go inside it!
NORTH POLE - Destroy some elf igloos, snowmen and even Santa's workshop!
LONDON - Destroy the tourist center and while your at it, who needs a clock that big?
TOKYO - Tokyo has never had so much action!
EGYPT - Raid ancient tombs and wake up those pharaohs. You can even go on the top of Pyramids!
CALYPSO'S BLIMP - Now you even get to fight in a big blimp! Watch out for the hole in the floor.
Pick Ups & Weapons: Their have been some fun new toys added to TW3 over TW2, use them wisley.
The following is a list of pick ups & weapons:
Fire Missile (standard missile)
Power Missile (goes in one direction)
Ricochet Bomb (bounces off walls)
Lighting (trap weapon)
Homing Missile (tracks and hits enemy from good distance)
Napalm (someone hit catches on fire)
Rain Missile (once shot press L 2 to detonate, explodes into many fireballs)
Remote Bomb (Set it, detonate it from a distance, then watch the destruction)
Speed Missile (one direction, lighting fast missile)
Mortar (powerful homing bomb)
UFO (trap weapon)
Pyramid (trap weapon)
Radar Dish (trap weapon)
Partial Health (restores some life)
Full Health (restores full health)
Turbo (restores turbo energy supply)
Graphics: Well Twisted Metal 3 has just O.K graphics. Walls are sometimes see through and blocky up close. There is not really any choppiness. The cars look not to bad. Like walls sort of blocky when up close. Actually the cars look better then the walls.
Sound, Voice & Music: The sounds are good but could have sounded better. During explosions, it sounds average. I don't recall any voice, sorry. Now the music is great! The game features music from Rob Zombie! It really fits the game since its rock/heavy metal music and the game is destructive and loud.
Final Comments: Twisted Metal 3 is a great game. Some may think Twisted Metal 2 is better though. I say it's definitely better then part one, and a little better than part 2.
