The Celica returns for the new model year with only minor detail changes. The front grille opening now has a new mesh screen design. Available models continue as GT and GTS. The GT features a 140-hp four-cylinder engine, while the GTS boasts a 180-hp four-cylinder with a standard six-speed manual transmission. An electronically controlled four-speed automatic is optional on both models. The Action Package, available on both models, includes a sport front bumper, rocker panels, aero rear bumper, and a rear wing. A leather interior and 17-inch alloy wheels are GTS-exclusive options. A four-wheel anti-lock braking system continues to be an extra-cost option on both GT and GTS models, as does side-impact airbags.

The Bottom Line:
If you are in the market for a sport coupe that you will love to drive. The 2002 Celica should be on your list of cars to test drive.
After realizing I was running my Jeep Grand Cherokee to its death driving on the South west Florida Interstate. 600 miles a week. 70-75 mph(speed limit 70). With 15-16 mpg average. I started looking for a quick economical sports car. I wanted something well built, quick, powerful, & comfortable with enough room for groceries or a couple friends. I also wanted a car that would turn heads. I purchased a 2002 Celica GT Auto with all the extras. I am in love with it.
The more I drive it the more I appreciate the enginering that went into it. It is a relaxing car to drive that feels safe unlike some of the smaller cars built to run like a rabbit on fire. It is a bit low to the ground but once you are on nice pavement it is the perfect way to blow down the highway and feel like you have plenty of room to open it up.
I keep the Jeep for hurricane season though. The celica should not be expected to perform in a foot of standing water.
