The Celica returns for the new model year with only minor detail changes. The front grille opening now has a new mesh screen design. Available models continue as GT and GTS. The GT features a 140-hp four-cylinder engine, while the GTS boasts a 180-hp four-cylinder with a standard six-speed manual transmission. An electronically controlled four-speed automatic is optional on both models. The Action Package, available on both models, includes a sport front bumper, rocker panels, aero rear bumper, and a rear wing. A leather interior and 17-inch alloy wheels are GTS-exclusive options. A four-wheel anti-lock braking system continues to be an extra-cost option on both GT and GTS models, as does side-impact airbags. Minimize

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: fuel economy, fun to drive, trunk room

Cons: interior lighting, cant turn off headlights at night, rear view

Handling And Control: 4

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this car for those looking for a sporty fuel efficient car. High school and college kids would especially like this car

I have a 2002 Toyota Celica GT with 107,000 miles on it. If you are considering buying a celica I would highly recommend it if you are in the market for a small, sporty, gas efficient car. The celica GT has a 1.8 liter 140hp engine that gets 28 city 33 highway. I have found that stock, the car gets around 26-28mpg in the mountains and 33-36mpg on the coast. The back seats have more room than most small coupes but the hatchback design makes you have to slouch forward so your head doesn't hit the ceiling. Even with a small engine, this car has great pickup and is geared high (I tach about 4 grand going 75mph on interstate). There is also a lot of trunk space especially since you can fold the rear seats down. They are also separated so that one can be left up (nice for putting snowboards/skis in the back and still fit 3 people.) The only downsides are the console lights up green at night while the gauges are orange, to change the oil there are these plastic clips that mechanics tend to break (you don't need this shield however) and there is limited visibility out the back because of the spoiler (however the spoiler tends to line up with the headlights of the car behind you to block them at night.) Overall I would highly recommend this car. I have owned a chevy cavalier, honda civic, honda prelude, and eclipse and would recommend the celica over any of them.
