Not the best DVD player around

Pros: nice menu features
Cons: not user-friendly, bad sound, terrible remote, loud machine.
The Bottom Line:
Not a good product -- loud machine, terrible remote, bad sound (either loud or muted, no in-between).
I bought this DVD player on the recommendation of my father, who has the Toshiba SD-3950, which is apparently a much better player than this one. To start, the DVD player makes loud ticking noises while playing, which is distracting, to say the least. The menu options are nicely presented, but difficult to quickly access -- options like subtitles require accessing the subtitle menu, selecting the language you'd prefer, and then clicking the right arrow button and then selecting "enter", rather than just being able to turn them on by hitting the subtitle button twice (like I could do on my 1 1/2 year old JVC that recently died). The sound options for this machine are also rather odd -- you can select Normal, 3D, or....can't remember what it's called.... but the Normal is strangely muted and the third option is rather loud, even if you turn the volume down to 1. The configuration of the remote is also not user-friendly -- even after using the DVD player for 2 weeks I still have no ease of use with the thing. I plan to switch this out with the Sony NS575P, which by all accounts seems to be a significantly better player.
