The Bottom Line:
For the price, you'll never find so much processing power packed in such a small device.
Toshiba has done it right when it came down to designing this PDA. Not only does the e310 pack the processing power of a PocketPC device, it also competes very well in form factor against the smallest of all Palms.
The e310 has 32MB RAM and 32MB of flashable ROM, as standard with PocketPC2002, as well as the 206mhz Intel StrongARM processor. It uses a front-lit, reflective screen that's standard issue with this generation of PocketPC. What makes this PocketPC special is not only the hardware specs, as many will find the specs up to standard in many other PocketPCs; but the form factor in which Toshiba has managed to pack everything into.
Side by side, the Toshiba is really no larger than your Palm V; or any other new models of Palm that's out there, color screen or not. The e310 may feel a little larger in your hand due to its square, rather than rounded corner utilized in the Palm devices. Which still makes the most powerful PDA you can find in such a form factor.
The screen is bright, brilliant in doors as well as outdoors. The customized launching application makes PocketPC2002 a bit easier to use than other PocketPC. The kicker is the price, you can find the e310 for less than $300 at many retailers.
The only problem with the e310 is the limited expandability. To achieve such a small form factor, the e310 does not include a CF slot. It only has a SD/MMC slot for memory expansion. Which would limit you to a small selection of Bluetooth expansion devices and memory card for the meanwhile. Although many company plans on making more external devices for SD, I've yet to run across anything other than a Bluetooth card.
However, if you want a PDA that works very well, you can easily carry around, and doesn't cost a whole lot of money, this is the best investment you can make with your $300.
