Toshiba DR570 DVD Recorder
Author's Review
I have an older TV with a set-top DTV tuner. I wanted to upgrade to a DVD recorder from my VCR. I settled on the Toshiba DR570 with a built-in DTV tuner. (replaced DR560) There were some consistent negatives relating to the remote control, but the Toshiba fit the need and price.
Solid machine, but I don’t like the remote control. Many features to learn - has detailed manual. It has a good digital tuner. The recordings are solid quality regardless of the speed used.
In the months I’ve had the Toshiba, I’ve made a range of recordings, deleted - many combinations. Everything works as intended. The menus are intuitive. If not, fiddling gets you there. It has the requirements – if not the convenience.
NEGATIVES: The remote isn’t the easiest - and a pain. No last channel recall, sound control or on-screen time readout. The recorder MUST be turned off each time to set for a new recording. Complete on-screen program information is lacking. Could give more info than it shows. No ability to record one channel and watch another. Researched on the web. Bought a simple A/B switch that allows watching one channel and record another.
Good tuner. Quality recordings. Features to learn . Good manual. Inconvenient remote. Lacking screen info.
