Pros: Very funny movie with Swayze, Snipes and Leguizamo showing their versatility
Cons: Not for all the publics
Who could imagine Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguzamo as "girls"?....then again, who'd imagined Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson, the 2 Germanys to unite again, and communism to fall in Russia?
It all happened.
This movie is a truly remarkable effort by Hollywood to make us laugh ad bring us a human lesson, which it correctly achieved. It was a challenge, but they completed their task.
The movie is about 2 "girls" who win a trip to Hollywood to represent New York in the "Miss Drag" contest. Those 2 girls, Vada , (Patrick) and Noxeema (Wesley), don't get along too well at first, but they realize they must try to behave during their trip. Meanwhile, they decide to take Chichi,(John) on the trip with them, to show Chichi how to go from "Drag Princess" to "Drag Queen". Their car breaks up in a town in the middle of Pennsylvania and they will change their lives there.
From the moment they find Leguizamo crying in the stairs when Snipes asked him "What's wrong? Did Menudo break up?" to the moment they get to Hollywood, inclluding the classic scenes where the policeman is trying to flatter Swayze and Swayze tells the policeman he is touching him in a bad spot, and the moment where Leguizamo us arguing with Swayze and Snipes and calls them " You 2 (beep) Gringas with a (beep)" the movie is filled with hilarious moments and good comedy.
Swayze, Snipes and Leguizamo also took this chance to portray themselves as excellent actors, because they were able to put feelings and humanity to their characters, and it was largely in part thanks to them that the movie was able to reach the public in the way it did, a touching story,an entertaining way at looking at the lives of these people who many times feel so disliked by our society. Thanks to the 3 great actors, the movie was able to carry out it's social message in a clear and entertaining way...
And I died laughing at it...
