Author's Review
This is a brilliant and funny portrayal of the Drag Queen World superbly acted by Patrick Swayz, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizano. I first came across this film at a friends house and was amazed and intrigued as I had never heard of it before. I am a big fan of other films made by Patrick Swayz and Wesley Snipes but had never heard of this one. When I got home and put it on I was constantly entertained and couldn't stop laughing. The plot consists of three Drag Queens competing to be the best there is and win one of the most important and high class titles in their world. Noxi(Snipes), Veda(Swayz) are best friends and highly respected and very much looked up to in the Drag Queen scene. They win a contest to go to Hollywood to compete for the highest title there is(similar lines to a miss world contest). Before they leave they are introduced to a 'boy in a dress'(Leguizano) and vow to take him under their wings and give him guidence to turn him into a full, glamorous and beautiful Queen. As only the two of them have won the contest they only have two plane tickets so decide to sell them so they can buy a car and drive to Los Angeles taking Chichi with them. As they are driving across the country they encounter endless problems. As they seem to be making progress and getting that little bit closer to their destination, they get pulled over in the middle of the night by a sheriff who tries to feel up Veda's skirt. Veda lashes out and hits him and thinking that the sheriff is dead they speed away leaving him lying on a dirt road. Their car breaks down and have to hitch a lift to a small town called Snidersville which has a population of twenty to thirty people. It is the sort of town that has sort of frozen in time. Veda, Noxi and Chichi are bewildered by the town and the people as they have to wait a few days for their car to be fixed. Veda becomes very close to the lady who has put them up for the few days and saves her from her abusive husband. Noxi becomes close to an old lady who hasn't spoken to anyone for years, ever since her husband left her but Noxi gets her talking. And Chichi becomes extremely close to the towns cutest and most respected young man who has no idea she is a Drag Queen. As they make over the town and it's people they leave a lasting impression on the town. The film is full of comedy and heart filled moments. It is a really funny film with superb acting and worth while to watch atleast once. This is the type of film that as you are watching you get that feel good factor that few films do.
