The rags-to-riches story of housewife Stacey Baker comes to life in this engaging documentary. After posing for a nude photograph and winning a magazine contest, Baker decided to leave her life behind in Tulsa, Oklahoma--as well as her husband--and move to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an adult film actress. Well done documentary

Pros: Honest film
Cons: Surgery scenes are tough to watch
I saw this movie to compare it with "Sex: The Annabel Chong Story." The Annabel Chong documentary, which i have reviewed, basically showed a clueless college student who seemingly made a mistake getting into the porn business. Chong comes across a buffoon.
In TGND, Stacy Baker, who becomes Stacy Valentine, does not really come across as a buffoon. Naive yes, especially in her relationship with her porn star Julian, but not a buffoon. She questions what becomes of herself and what path she is taking, and she acknowledges her vulnerability, something Chong would not do.
In TGND, we see Valentine succeed in the porn biz, whereas we see Chong crash in her movie. But Valentine, after she reaches the top and wins an award in Cannes, has to ask, what now? What will this career do for me? In the end, the lesson is painful, and Baker looks to get out.
The strength in this film is the honesty Fugate presents. The good and the bad are in here, down to the plastic surgery to stay one step ahead.
