In spite of its brilliance and that it was one of the first epic story-telling efforts in the film industry, the message is enough to justify avoiding it.

Pros: Everything!
Cons: Historically inaccurate, and pro KKK
Bottom Line:
A classic simply because many people wrongly believed in the history portrayed. Plus, this is the longest silent movie of all time, leading to a revival of the Klan.
