Author Carr has reconstructed turn of the century New York City in such breathtaking detail that history buffs and mystery enthusiasts alike will be thoroughly entertained by The Alientist, a fantastic crime thriller. Incorporating "modern" techniques of detective work, along with a colorful cast of characters, and a chilling murderer, The Alientist is a spellbinding read of epic proportions. Carr's background in history serves him well as he includes such real life figures as Theodore Roosevelt (pre-Presidency) and J.P. Morgan in the case. Brilliant "alienist" Dr. Kreizler teams with the story's narrator John Moore and others to solve a series of grisly murders by trying to deduce the killer's background through the manner in which his victims are mutilated and by determining their backgrounds.
