Gripping profiler tale
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: incredibly detailed
Cons: descriptively gruesome
I ordinarily do not just go out and buy books. Usually, they are recommended to me before I buy or borrow them. However, one look at the bookcover for 'The Alienist' and I found myself shelling out the dough for a hardcover. I wasn't disappointed. Mr. Carr is brilliant with the details of hunting a serial killer in turn-of-the-century New York. Psychological profiling is a fascinating subject by itself. It's even more interesting to understand the public mistrust of its basis during this time period. I have passed the book along to many friends. However, some were not able to get into it because of the gruesome crimes that are being investigated. It's obviously not a book for anyone. But, for anyone who enjoys reading profiler-type books, i.e. John Douglas, this is definitely a book to consider. To me it's one of those books that the only thing that stops you from reading it straight through is having to work and sleep. I even became depressed when I came to the end. Thankfully, he came out with another book 'Angel of Darkness' which I feel is equally satisfying. I'll would recommend it as well.
