The goal of The New Tetris is to collect as many lines as possible. You clear lines by completely filling horizontal lines with puzzle pieces that drop from the top of the screen. You can rotate 'em and move 'em left and right to drop 'em in place. As the number of lines you have collected increases, pieces drop faster, so watch out! When your piece-pile stacks to the top of the screen, your career as a Tetris tycoon comes to an abrupt halt. If you're a Tetris fan, The New Tetris will take your obsession to a whole new level!

If you want an addiction, this is a fun one

Pros: It is addictive and challenges to do a little better each time.
Cons: The game can be expensive.
The Bottom Line:
I would highly recommend this game. It continually challenges you.
My husband and I had played this game several times at a friends house and became addicted to it. Little did we realize how addicting it would actually become. We had an N64, but no New Tetris. We would look for it every time we went to the video store and it was always, always, always checked out. This is a good sign for the game, but not good if you want to check it out.
I finally decided to break down and get it for my husband and myself for Christmas. I had looked at the stores and found that they cost around $50.00 - a lot of money to me. I looked on a web site that I had found a game on before, and sure enough, there it was for not $50.00, but $30.00. Big difference for me. (By the way, that site is www.buy.com)
One benefit of this game is that you can play it alone or with up to three other people. When you are playing alone, you also have the option of playing against the computer or completely alone.
There are also three different types of games. There is a sprint which is three minutes, an ultra which is up to 150 lines and then there is marathon where you play until you build up and build yourself out. I find myself playing the sprint and marathon the most. Marathon is great because I am continually trying to beat my high score and therefore getting a higher rank. The down side to that is that I can play for half an hour and not even realize it. Sprint is good when you need a Tetris fix, but you don't have a lot of time. It limits you to the three minutes. We play Sprint a lot when I am fixing dinner. It is just enough time to play a game or two before I have to check the dinner again.
