Author's Review
On really cold nights/mornings, I wake-up right on the edge of the bed, almost falling onto the floor. Why? My 55 pound dog is stretched out in my spot. Not only is she on the bed, but she is under the blankets and has her head resting on my pillow!!

My house is a brick ranch, no basement, so it is built on a concrete slab. The floors get very cold at night during the winter and my dog is getting old (she is 10) and her old bones probably don't feel so good after sleeping the night on the floor. So she took over my bed. Then one day I came home from work to find that while I was gone, she had apparently gotten cold and so she climbed up on the bed and un-made it; she had pulled the blankets back and curled-up for a nap! She has her nerve.

About a month ago I got tired of fighting the dog for bed space so I went in search of a doggie bed. I had no idea there were so many choices. Doggie beds come in every size, shape, and color, made of many different materials, and can cost you anywhere from about $12.99 to over $100. I really had no idea.

At the third pet store I went to, I found the Snoozer Cosy Cave Pet Bed. It was priced at $49.99, which was a little more than I had planned on paying, but it seemed like the perfect solution. It has a "pocket" so that the dog can crawl into it, like a cave, and not only be warm, but also be covered up.

The outside fabric of the bed is made of polycotton and the inside (where the dog sleeps) is lined with a lambswool material. The filling of the cushion (the part the dog lays on) is polyester and cedar. It is very thick, warm and cozy (hence it's name: Cosy Cave).

The top layer has built-in support so that the dog can easily enter into the bed (I guess this is helpful for dogs who can't cover-up their own self, a problem my dog doesn't seem to have; she gets under my blankets just fine!). The cover is also removable and washable, which is very helpful.

The bed I bought is Navy Blue. This was the only color the store had in stock, but the stock-person said it could be ordered in other colors, like Khaki and a Plaid color. I figured that since dogs are color blind, my dog wouldn't care what color I bought, so I told the stock-person the Navy Blue would be fine. This bed also comes in two sizes, 24 inches and 35 inches.

I take the bed home to surprise my dog. She walks around it 5 or 6 times, smelling every square inch of it. She is wagging her tail, so I am so proud of myself for picking out the perfect bed for her. I encouraged her to get in it, well actually, I had to push her into it so that she would get the idea. She did lay down in it and seemed very happy. That night, I put her into it again, reassured her that this was a very good thing, and then I turned out the light and got into bed myself. Two minutes later, I have a dog in bed with me.

Now, a full month later, we are still working on getting her to sleep in her bed at night. (That is, when the cats aren't in it. The cats absolutely love the "doggie" bed. Oh, well.) The dog will get into the new bed at night and she acts like she will sleep there, but as soon as she thinks I am asleep, she gets in bed with me. She does, however, take naps in it during the day and she has quit un-making my bed.

Overall, I think this is a good product. It seems to be very well-made and it is very warm and cozy. It would be great for a younger dog that hasn't already learned bad habits. But for an older dog, you know what they say: you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Sorry, I couldn't resist.
