Want to DJ? Get the right equipment!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: The best in the industry.

Cons: Audio cables are part of the tables and are questionable in quality

The Bottom Line:
There is a reason every DJ you've ever heard of uses 1200s... If you are serious about DJing, you better get the right equipment!

Cool, you are going to DJ?

So what turntables are you buying? If you answer anything other than 1200s its clear you either don't know what you are doing or aren't really serious about DJing.

Technics makes two different kinds of 1200s, MK2 and M3D. It really doesn't matter which one you get, go with whichever is cheaper.

The Quality

1200s are extremely well built, their feet even have shock absorbers so it won't skip when the bass hits.

The direct drive picks up immediately after you take your finger off the record, its great for predictable cueing.

Sound quality has a lot to do with the quality of the needle you buy and records you play. I can assure you, the limiting quality factor will not be these turntables!

The audio cables appear cheap and come directly out of the turntable, so there is no way to replace them. This is the only real drawback. I think the M3D might resolve this problem

The Cost

They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. You should be able to find a deal online where you can get them for $350 each plus shipping. Keep in mind you will also need $100 needles for each turntable in addition to paying for the 1200s themselves. (I recommend Ortofon needles)

DO NOT BUY USED! If you go into any record store you will see how abused 1200s can get if mistreated. Don't risk it, buy new or from a friend.

Appearance

When you get a gig it's important that you look professional and like you know what you are doing. These tables definitely won't hurt. If you show up with anything less, people will notice.
