My Experience
The Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack is an awesome backpack!

I have used it for both school and travel.

I used the Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack during the tail-end of my schooling in the Midwest. We were on rotation for nine months and then returned to school for two weeks prior to graduation and I found the Targus backpack an excellent tool. It safely carried my Sony VAIO computer. I found the padding in the computer compartment more than sufficient to safely protect my notebook.

When I was completing my internships, I also used my Targus backpack. It was a bit bulky to carry to the hospital daily, but it provided plenty of room for me to stash my water bottle, lunch, papers, and folders.

I now mainly use the Targus backpack for travel. When I went to Paris, my husband and I used the Targus backpack both as his carry-on item as well as a daypack if we knew we would be doing a lot of shopping that day. At one point in the Paris trip, he even had two baguettes sticking out from the backpack! The multiple compartments in the Targus backpack make it a great backpack to use for travel. There is even a little mobile phone compartment on the shoulder strap; how convenient! I like the pockets that are accessible from the outside because we usually placed items such as pocket Kleenex and other small, “steal-able” items. We also used the two mesh pockets with the elastic ties to carry our water bottles. It is convenient and easy to access. We used the first, outer compartment that has a vertical zipper to store snacks. The inner most compartment we used to store more precious items such as our digital camera. What is nice about the Targus backpack is that there is a flap that snaps in-front of all of the main compartments, making it difficult for someone to snatch an item from the backpack without notice.

The Targus backpack has an excellent amount of padding. The shoulder strap and the backside of the backpack (the side the comes in contact with your back) has ample padding to make lugging the backpack around very comfortable. It has been three years since I have had the backpack and the padding is still very comfortable.

As mentioned previously, the Targus backpack has two main compartments – the one that is accessible with the vertical zipper and the compartment behind that, which is larger and also houses the computer pocket. Within each compartment are little pockets; some are designed with zippers, making sure that the contents stay nice and secure inside. There is a key hook to secure keys, making it easy to retrieve them when needed. There are also pen/pencil slots available for good organization of writing utensils.

The only drawback about the backpack is that it is rather bulky. It weighs a bit more than three pounds by itself and is fairly large. I only use it when I know I will be hauling around a good amount of material, otherwise its bulkiness is a bit cumbersome.

Overall Thoughts
The Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack is a versatile backpack that will come in handy for both school and travel. Highly recommended.
