Faraway subjects come right up close, and the distance between the main subject and the background is compressed for professional-looking results. Even as the lens extends the telephoto range to focal length 500mm – which enables ultra-telephoto shots of subjects further than the eye can see – its design is extremely lightweight and compact. When mounted on a digital SLR with an APS-C size imaging sensor, it provides a much greater focal length equivalent – around 750mm – for super-ultra-telephoto imaging. The lens is supplied with a hood and a detachable Filter Effect Control, which allows rotation of a filter with the hood attached.

Cheap, lightweight, and decently sharp. Autofocus not ideal for wildlife

Pros: Decently sharp, long, cheap, lightweight.
Cons: Slow autofocus, no focus limiter. Minolta version front-focuses (though Canon is fine)
Bottom Line:
Low weight is great for hand-holding. But autofocus too slow for wildlife photography, and manual focus ring is inconveniently placed.
