Author's Review
First, let me make it clear that I am an adult gamer. Of the wii games I have tried so far, this one is one of my favorites. It is relaxing and enjoyable. If you enjoy cooking at all, you will probably enjoy this game. If burn jello, you still will probably enjoy this game.
Price range in stores for the game is now around $20 it's a little bit older and getting somewhat harder to find. I actually bought this game before I bought my wii because I loved the concept. I was not disappointed when I was able to play it.
Graphics: Very cartoon-ish, but the colors are vivid and bright and the graphics are entertaining and enjoyable. There is nothing 3 dimensional about the game. Personally, I appreciate that. 3-D tends to make me nauseated. There is nothing about this game that would offend the eye or make you wish you weren't watching the screen.
Game Play: Unlike other games where you do a lot of the same thing, this has a variety of motions. One basically has to complete the many steps of various recipes. Activities include vegetable peeling, chopping, grinding, dough rolling and many, many others. As someone who enjoys cooking a lot, I would say that the hand motions are quite realistic. As you complete one recipe, new recipes and competitors are unlocked. There are three modes: 2 player, Competition and Recipe Book. In addition, you can also go in and practice or play certain activities that you either enjoy a lot or want to work on.
Age Appropriateness: More adult players and younger players will enjoy this more than what teens would. There is a serious lack of blood and violence, making it appropriate for any age. There is nothing offensive in this game.
If you enjoy Mario Party, you will probably enjoy this game. There are no "game boards" as what is in Mario Party, but the spirit of the game is there in mini activities, rewards and graphics.
In addition to an enjoyable game play, it's also a good way to learn about different foods and how they are prepared as well as the origin of a wide variety of dishes.
