Author's Review
Are you Smarter than a 5th grader is a great game show on television. Well, now it is a game for the Nintendo Wii game system. THQ created this game for the Nintendo Wii game and it is rated E for everyone. This can be a single player game or up to four people can play.

The game opens with a short menu. Choose New Game, Profiles, Honor roll, or options. If this is the first time you have played this game you should choose profiles first. In profiles you create your character by choosing male or female. There are other things you can do to bring your character to life like change hair style and color, or your clothes. Once that is done you can go to options if needed. Here you can change the volume of the voices. You can also add cations. This is so you can read the peoples dialogue instead of hear it.  In the Honor roll section you can see your game progress. Keep track of who earns the most points or who have the highest average score. The report card section tells you what grade you get for all the categories, you have answered questions in.

Game modes is the menue where you choose what type of game you want to play. The first game on the list is Homeroom. This game is exactly like the game show you have five young children that you can choose to help you answer questions. In this mode you can only play one player.  Each correct answer will move you up the money ladder. You are given the same amount of cheats as you get on television to help you move up the ladder. You get to choose one of the young kids to help you with the questions. You can peek at your helpers paper, or copy off your classmate. The last cheat is the save, this means if your answer is wrong and your classmates is right then you are safe. Get all the questions right and win a million dollars. However, you can quit at any time, and take your winnings and leave. You do have to look into the camera and tell everyone in the room that you are not smarter than a fifth grader. This part is a lot of fun when you have a lot of players.

Next on the list of games to play are academic academy. In this game up to four people can play. This mode selects the subjects for you at random. You will get four answers to choose from. The + arrows on the wii collers lets you choose the right answer. You can use the up, down, left or right arrow that corresponds with the correct answer. All players must lock in their answers before the corect answer is given. You earn points in this game and the person with the high score wins.

Flashcards is the title of the next game choice. There are ten questions that need answering in this game. The board turns over with a question and four answers. The higher the grade on the question the more points it is worth. Get the answer right get lots of points. Be the first to answer correctly get a little extra points. However, answer the question wrong you will loose points.

Spelling Bee is the last game you can choose. This game is all about spelling. In this game you will be given four words and you must choose which one is misspelled. The first right answer will get a bonus and a wrong answer will get points taken away. Keep this in mind as you get to the end of the game.

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? This game is one that challenges your knowledge. You can win any of these games by answering the most questions and getting the highest score.

My Opinion:

I have played all the games on this disc and I have two favorites. I like the original television version. In this game you get to stand alone and see how well you do. It makes you feel just like a contestant on the show. After the game the next person would take a turn. My family finds this way of play very challenging and a lot of fun. My husband and I also like to play the Academic Academy. This game lets us play together and enjoy the rewards together.

I am not a very smart person as far as book learning, however, I love this game because it challenges me to do better and remember things long forgotten. This game is not one of those silly games where you run around shooting everything that moves but actually challenges you to think.

This game is a great educational tool too. Play this game with your children and I am sure you will see that they like the game as much as you.

The only game that I do not like to play but do on occasion is the spelling bee. My spelling is absolutely terrible. However, I feel if I play this game just once in a while my spelling may improve.

I recommend this game to everyone who loves to watch Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. It will make a great game for game night as well. Don't be scared this game is too hard because it is not. Even if you do get the questions wrong think of all the things you are learning.
