McCarthy): "[S]exy and insightful about physical desire....[The film] will please moviegoers yearning for well told, wholesome but not necessarily prudish fare.", (12/292/006, p.108, Owen Gleiberman): Included in Entertainment Weekly's "Top 10 Films Of The Year" -- "[T]ouching chords of collective memory about love, ancestry, and the American immigrant dream."

A beautiful, restrained love story that should have made Elizabeth Reaser a star

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Reaser's performance, nearly matched by Tim Guinee

Cons: It's first 10 - 15 minutes are VERY slow.

Bottom Line:
A cliched story of the "mail order bride" sent to America to help with the farming turns into a surprisingly beautiful meditation on love and land. Read More at Epinions.com

Minnesota 1920 -- Elizabeth Reaser is Tim Guinee's German Mail-Order Bride in Sweet Land

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Great acting, intriguing story that's easy for all to relate to

Cons: Pacing is a bit slow

Bottom Line:
Great dramatization of the anti-German midwest during World War II, and the mail-order bride that managed to flourish there despite the treatment she received from others. Read More at Epinions.com

Realistic Sweetness Of Love And Land

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Very good cast; good cinematography; nice love story starting in early 20th century

Cons: Minor things about interior home shot angles but no biggie

Bottom Line:
If you're a young romantic or older person with a good relationship then you should like it. Others still seeking may want to use it as a model of values. Read More at Epinions.com
