2002 Impreza

Subaru redesigns its smallest car for 02, repositioning Impreza from an entry-level to a premium subcompact. Coupe models are dropped. Sedans now come in 165-hp 2.5RS and 227-hp turbo WRX versions. Wagons mirror that with 2.5TS and WRX models, and add an SUV-flavored Outback with the 165-hp engine. All have new styling, 4-cyl engines with horizontally opposed cylinders, and manual or optional automatic transmissions. WRXs are patterned after Subarus World Rally competition cars. All Imprezas come with all-wheel drive, ABS, CD player, and power windows/locks. Sedans have wider front bodywork.
