Subaru redesigns its smallest car for 02, repositioning Impreza from an entry-level to a premium subcompact. Coupe models are dropped. Sedans now come in 165-hp 2.5RS and 227-hp turbo WRX versions. Wagons mirror that with 2.5TS and WRX models, and add an SUV-flavored Outback with the 165-hp engine. All have new styling, 4-cyl engines with horizontally opposed cylinders, and manual or optional automatic transmissions. WRXs are patterned after Subarus World Rally competition cars. All Imprezas come with all-wheel drive, ABS, CD player, and power windows/locks. Sedans have wider front bodywork. WRXs include a sport suspension, an aluminum hood with functional scoop, and special interior trim and seats.

Great value, fair price
Pros: Price, performance, AWD, trunk, legroom, headroom, durability Cons: Outdated and underrated transmission, bargain interior, interior noise at speed. Bottom Line: "We need milk. Be back in ten, dear!"
Pros: Acceleration; composure; quiet, at any speed; AWD handling; civilised; every other WRX driver waves Cons: Gas mileage; gets too much attention from local racer idiots Bottom Line: 2002 WRX Wagon - it hauls
Pros: Looks Cool, Fun to Drive, Cargo Space, Great Engine, Grip and more Grip Cons: Fools in lowered Civics always want to race, Other choices for $25K Bottom Line: Best car out there for the money!!!!!!!!
Pros: Very hot body, fast, rated one of the best cars in the nation for safety. Cons: It's not the smoothest car in the world but other than that it is flawless. Bottom Line: The little giant that could; what a package for less than $23K
Pros: Fast, great traction & handling, fast, distinctive, wonderful in snow and rain. True giant killer. Cons: Fuel economy, smallish size, weak paint. Bottom Line: Awsome car to drive but not so much fun to look at!
Pros: Performance, value, comfortable for it's size, 4WD Cons: not attractive car (grows on you, but not others), cheap interior, Bottom Line: Nothing fancy but great performance
Pros: Performance, safety, reliability Cons: Interior lacking in features, fabric wears easier than other cars. Bottom Line: Amazing car, have to drive it to love it
Pros: Comfortable, Speed, Handling, the looks it gets, everything Cons: Gas, friends say leg room in the back isn't great Bottom Line: WRX review : Thumbing its nose at BMW & Audi
Pros: BMW shaming performance. Cargo space. Subaru made. Cons: Everyone tries to race . It's 'cute'. Can't fully enjoy within legal/safe limits. Bottom Line: WRX, Cheapest, most legal under-aged party around!
Pros: Speed, Agility, power/price ratio, fun, shifter, turbo, momo, stereo Cons: The "Next Track" dial is a little weird. Bottom Line: |
