Stone Country: Country Artists Perform the Songs of the Rolling Stones

Honky Tonk Country!!!!

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Incredible tracks from Tritt, Kershaw, and Raye

Cons: Lawrence, the Tractors, and Little Texas needed to be left in the studio

Author's Review
This album is quite possibly the best tribute album ever done. And I thought Common Thread was incredible.

I am a DJ at a country club and the place erupts when I play Travis Tritt's "Honky Tonk Women" or Collin Raye's "Brown Sugar." A similar response comes from Rodney Crowell's rendition of "Jumpin'Jack Flash." And this is just the higher energy tracks.

Deana Carter will melt you as you escape with "Ruby Tuesday" and Nanci Griffith induces similar response with "No Expectations." Sammy Kershaw's "Angie" I have to be honest with you about: Sammy actually does it better, Sorry Mick. I don't know what it is about it, but Sammy Kershaw rips your heart out with it.

Blackhawk comes close to topping the Brits with their versions of "Wild Horses" but definitely succeed in making it a great three-step. The best was saved for last as the Possum; the Great George Jones closes out the CD with "Time is on My Side." Yes, George it is.

Tracy Lawrence, the Tractors, and Little Texas also make appearances on this album.
