Square foot gardening provides high yields in a small space with little work. My sister who has almost no gardening space has used square foot gardening for a number of years. She has always gotten great results. After years of huge gardens, I am rebuilding my garden by Mr. Bartholomew's plans.

Square foot gardening requires separating your garden into small squares. . My sister and I use railroad ties for our gardens. We divide the garden up into one-foot squares. This makes weeding, fertilizing, and harvesting easy. You don't walk on your soil so you don't compact it.
You use every inch possible. Mr. Bartholomew gives detailed instructions on what plants can be combined in a square to maximize yields. The book includes plans for building support for tomato plants. I was concerned about this method because I like to grow cantaloupe and watermelon. Mr. Bartholomew includes instructions on how to grow those things using this method.

I love this book. This is an easy way to garden organically since every inch of the garden is used. This kind of gardening is big work the first year but they are worth it. These gardens make your garden space a pleasant pretty place.
