Author's Review
I have been a "Square Foot" Gardener for about 9 years now. I decided on this method after watching a television series based on this book.

You can get the maximum amount of harvest from the smallest space available.
How to enrich and fertilize just the soil where the plants grow.
Making 4 foot by 4 foot squares allows you to reach all the plants without walking on your soil therefore not compacting it.

A few drawbacks I have found using this method is the rapid spread of disease throughout the garden. For example disease will spread like wild fire through your cukes since they are so packed together. If you're like me and refrain from pesticides then this is a problem. Also your yield is less since you are planting so close.

There are many tips that Mr Bartholomew reviews in this book most are basic common sense. I have learned a lot from this book and recommend this for the beginner or expert gardener.
