I first learned about the Square foot gardening method through watching Mel Bartholomew's PBS show of the same name. His method of gardening looked simple to get started and interested me enough to purchase this book, Square Foot Gardening.
The book contains an abundance of information about this particular method of gardening. Square foot gardening differs from conventional row gardening, by organizing plantings in 4X4 foot beds utilizing a grid planting pattern. The author explains in easy to understand terms, how to select the location of your garden, how to properly amend the soil, and a whole wealth of information on types of plants to grow. The book contains useful diagrams of garden layout, timing of planting and plant care.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who thought they could not have a garden due to lack of space, disability, or lack of time. The author shows how all of these obstacles can be easily overcome with the square foot gardening method.
