Pros: easy reading, great ideas, priceless advice
Cons: none
I checked this book out from our local library about 5 years ago, and have used his methods since.
I had in the past, made the long rows that took alot of space, and were sometimes very hard to keep up on. But after reading this book, I found the authors ideas to be sensible, and decided to give it a try with my next garden.
The following spring, we tilled up the large garden plot, but instead of rows, we put it into squares about 4'x4'. I then planted the usual early garden crops, but implemented the multiple planting of radishes in the same place as the lettuce, and carrots also. I found that my yield was just as high, my weeds much less, and WOW, so much from so little space.
I also planted my potatos in the 4x4 plots, and didn't bother to mound the plants, just let things go natural. I got a beautiful crop that year, and each year since. I think the rows around the plots, helps keep the burrowing bugs away, as I have yet to have any trouble or loss from them.
The authors idea of multi plantings, small manageable squares, and over all bed maintanance, makes this book priceless for the beginning gardener.
