Pros: terrific, easy-to-use planting method tops cover a wide variety of gardeners (hobby to serious home-grower)
Cons: none
The Bottom Line:
No matter how long you've been gardening, there's something new for you inside these pages. The book is well thought out, well laid out, and a joy to own.
A friend of mine from work recommended this book, and so far I've had wonderful results with it. My garden is laid out more intelligently, I managed to replace the soil in my garden area with an author-recommended blend, and I'm seeing my first little plants coming up. This is my second gardening season, and with the help of this book I'm leaps and bounds beyond were I was last Spring.
One of my favorite parts of this book is how I can build upon the method the next year. I'll easily add in a few more of his suggestions, like how to winterize the garden area and how to rotate crops, then next year perhaps I can get my own compost heap going! This book has made me feel like a very empowered gardener, more apt to make good decisions when I visit the garden shop.
The topics covered in this book include preparing the soil, fertilizing, pest control, layout and timing of the planting of seeds, container gardening, and making mini "greenhouses" for extending the gardening season.
The author also discusses the benefits of organic gardening. I know this book will teach me new things and continue to be an asset for years to come.
