Pros: works great
Cons: shorter range
The Bottom Line:
this works to help you train your dog
We got the Sportdog Yard Trainer Electronic Dog Training Collar to help to control our unruly english bulldog. My husband did a ton of online research and discovered that this was a good system to use on larger dogs, and because she has so much extra skin, it would still shock her and she would feel it. She knows what the controller does. We haven't reallyl had to shock her very often, or even that many times, she just got that shock and learned, right away, that it meant that if she did something wrong that she would get it again. My husband felt it, he said it dosnt' hurt, it's just a "shock" lol. and so it's not inhumane, and we FOR SURE only use it as a training method, but it is amazing. It works well for her with her fat rolls and extra skin.
I would have to say that the range seems to be short, I'm not sure if ours needs to be fixed, or if once the dog is out of a certain range that it's a lesser shock or if it doesn't work. I was under the impression that it was for people trying to teach dogs to duck hunt, so it needed to have a long range, but ours doesn't seem to.
It does what it's supposed to as long as she's not off a ways from our yard or if we leave and she tries to run off.
I think that it is a good product and I would recommend it to anyone looking to train their dog with a shock collar.
