Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Good reception, good sound, affordable good value, TV/Weather, plenty of memory presets.

Cons: Wish they came with better headphones.

The Bottom Line:
Excellent price/feature value. Sound/reception is great. People that say this is a piece of crap are smokin' crack .

I needed a replacement for my Sangean DT-110, it phone jack crapping out on me and it's earbuds as well after great abuse using it at work in an office/warehouse environment. I love Sangean stuff, though it's expensive, and I just can't justify spending a lot of money on a pocket radio, especially one that's probably going to get some knocking around. I got the 110 on ebay very cheap, but couldn't find a deal anywhere on them. Radio Shack discontinued their sangean produced models too. So....
I've seen this Sony SRF-M37V everywhere, but the review weren't very good...saying it has bad sound, bad reception etc etc. I liked the price, around 30 bucks as opposed to 50-60 for Sangeans I looked. I like the way it looks, and when I got it home and put an AAA battery in i was relieved that I also like the sound. The earphones yes are pretty cheesy, but they're not total crap, especially for talk radio. I'll probably replace them with better earbuds at some point. Basically it seems well built, nicely styled, cheap, love the digital tuning and memory presets. Like the hold function and the DX and local switch works great.
While a some other reviews I've read are very negative or mixed about this radio...I think it's pretty awesome. The TV stations come in ok and I've read many say they can't get weather channels in, they come in great for me. weather channels aren't exactly high fidelity broadcasts ya know. Also, my DT-110 when turned up with music distorts and the bass overwhelms the earbuds. The Sony when turns up sounds great, the lows are huge, but the sound doesn't get distorted by flabby low end either when you want to crank it up.
While I love Sangean stuff (I own the CCRadio Plus too), this Sony is great and does the job well, and I'm relived that it's better than I expected after reading a lot of mixed reviews.
