Playstation 2 is easy to set up and still fun to have around.

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Affordable, easy to use, and many games to choose for this system.

Cons: Being phased out, Corded controller, graphics a step down from other systems.

The Bottom Line:
I recommend this system because it has been around and made to last. It is low priced and easy to get started.

I bought the Sony Playstation 2 because I have limited space and this system small and compact. I also didn't want to spend a ton of money on something I play occasionally. It comes with 1 controller and the AV cables. This system is simple to set up and you are ready to play in just a few minutes. Be sure to purchase a memory card to store game progress. The system costs $99 new and the memory card costs 15.99 to about $19.99 depending on the size of memory you need. I bought a 64MD card, which is more than enough for storage. This game system takes about 5 minutes to set up. Instructions are simple to follow. This system also plays music CD's and regular DVD movies. DVD movies require a remote control for about $13.99. This system is also able to be hooked up to the internet for online game play. This was easy and PS2 games you buy allow you to play many for free online with extra graphics different than what is on your disk.

I find the corded controller a bit difficult to get used to because some of the games require a combination of buttons to do different things. This includes some shooter games and fighting games. The controller seems to be durable with no problems and quick response to your actions.  Arcade games such as Capcom Classics or Namco Museum is simple and easy to play, which I spend hours. The vintage arcade game graphics are exactly what you remember they were once popular.  However, it gets better over time and becomes fun. Just have some patience. Graphics are good and this system is good for anyone who does not mind a step down from the PS3 or XBox 360. Sound effects are very good.

The Sony PS2 offers hundreds of games from many different genres like Shooting, Arcade, Adventure, Sports, and Racing. There is a variety for ALL ages from 7 years old to adult. You can find many affordable games that are used and still find many new games if you want.

This system is on its way out and may be discontinued at the end of 2010 or early 2011. So if you want a new system you need to think of buying now. New games are coming down in price also. I bought 4 NEW games for $15.99 (Star Wars); $12.99 (SOCOM 3); $10.99 (Resident Evil 4); and Capcom Classic Arcade (10.99). I got started with everything for less than $170.00. Compare to the other systems for $200.00 to $300.00 just for the consoles alone (XBox and PS3) and $20 - $60 for just 1 game. I don't want to knock the bigger systems, because you cant beat the powerful graphics and game variety. It is just that I don't want to spend alot of money. Therefore, when I get bored, I can enjoy this system for hours without going broke.

I certainly recommend the Sony Playstation 2 because it has stood the test of time for over 12 years now, and it is affordable and durable. It has many many different games to choose and you should be able to find games for awhile after the consoles are discontinued.
