Pros: Name brand,inputs,picture quality
Cons: price,"made in mexico",needs some more heavier duty plastic in cabinet
The Bottom Line:
Overall I am pleased with the TV and hope to get many years use out of it.
Well I recently worked at an electronic store and decided to buy one for someone. It was a toss up beween Toshiba and Sony..in the end SOny won. While Toshiba and Sonys quality are pretty similiar the layout of the connections on the Sony suited to my needs better (hooked up an DVD,PS2,Digi. cable box,VCR,original NES..alot of stuff) and still needed an A/V switcher.Used the ebst cable you can pretty much get out of retail stores..Monster cable.Hooked up the DVD player via component Monster cable wires.Let me tell you one thing..the main reason I did use the component hook up to the DVD player is so I had more hookups for the rest of the junk. There really shouldn't be any quality difference using another method.ACTUALLY..even though you cna hook up an DVD player using component connection (on a player you can then use progressive play) this TV WILL NOT DISPLAY PROGRESSIVE PLAYBACK (the manual does mention this tv can only display 480i not 480p..wish it could but doesn't) so long story short I did use the expensive component cables but just becuase I could get them so cheap...another option is S-Video hookup...don't waste your money on component hookup..if cable did sell for as much as I got them for..what the hell..but they are pricey. In order to display a picture via the component hookup/progressive scan the picture needs to be going to an HDTV.These TVs are still up in proce but should drop in the near fture.picture quality is great have the digital cable box hooked up via s-video and the quality is crisp and clean. The television does have the option to display in 16:9 mode but only on the video inputs..in other words you can use the widescreen format (16:9) on say for example the video 1,video 2, etc. inputs but not on the coaxial connection say.Picture is very bright and the brightness level isn't even cranked up.I think the case on the TV is a little thin..should have went a little thicker with the plastic..feels like it could crack easily. Also since when did Sony start making TVs in Mexico..damn for that money I would like to see made in Japan once again. The Tv isn't that old maybe a couple of weeks but so far I can't get over how bright and sharp the picture is.The TV does has a little bit of heft @ 99lbs. and 10oz (I know why not make it an even 100lbs?) but you usually find that flat screens are a bit heavier then curved screens. Not even sure if Sony is still making curved screens maybe only flat from here out.Hopefully this product should last a good while as other Sony products I have purchased in the past have lasted a while.I feel it was a good purchase.
