Great choice for 27" flatscreen TV

Pros: Great picture, many features for cable users
Cons: Speakers need improvement & many menu steps to turn captioning on/off
The Bottom Line:
The best 27" TV on the market for picture quality and system compatibility; many excellent features.
I also bought the Sony WEGA KV-27FS120 27" flatscreen TV at Sears, and I'm very pleased with the selection process, sales and pickup process, and (especially!) the TV itself. I recommend the set.
First a bit about the TV. Using my tape measure, it is 30" wide, 23" tall, and about 20" deep. The screen actually measures 27" diagonally (so there's no hidden screen area).
The picture is stunning. (When I compared this Sony against other manufacturer models, the Sony consistently had a better picture, at two stores.)
You have plenty of connection options when you set it up.
I connected the cable TV box using L/R/V (left/right/video) connector #1; the VCR using L/R/V #3 (the L/R/V #2 is on the front of the set); and the DVD using the Component connector (Y, Pb, Pr, left & right audio). Using a signal splitter (buy at Radio Shack) I connected the CATV cable to both the cable box and to the 75 Ohm cable connector on the rear of the set.
Turn on the TV and it asks if you want it to scan for active channels. I let it do so, and it automatically detected that I had cable, and did a fine job of finding all of the non-scrambled channels on cable. (I don't get any premium channels, and the TV is so good I don't think I need the cable box any more!)
You'll need to use the instruction manual to help you set up the remote to control your other devices, I had no difficulty doing this.
One downer is that the remote only controls 3 devices max: the TV, your VCR or DVD player (pick one), and your cable or satellite box (pick one). If you're like me and you have both a DVD and VCR, you'll still need to use a second remote control. (There might be a way around this, if you know if it please let us know!)
There are many on-screen menus.
* Video (the usual controls for picture, brightness, etc., plus display mode for 'customized viewing' and color temp)
* Audio (treble, bass, balance, Steady Sound (keeps sound from blaring when you change channels), SRS(enhances the sound), SAP, audio out fixed/variable--more later)
* Channel setup (you can specify favorite channels, add/delete channels from the list, and label channels with up to 5 characters of your choosing)
* Parental control
* Setup menu (captioning; info banner(more later); video label so you can label your inputs "VCR", "DVD", etc; tilt correction (!), language, 16:9 enhanced (I haven't found a use for this yet))
Some other Plusses:
* Info banner. Turn this on to display the current program and time left for it, when you switch channels or press the Display button.
* Channel labels. Now I don't have to remember what channel is what - I see this when I switch channels.
There are a few negatives to the TV.
* First, the sound is only ok. Lots of treble, so you have to turn the treble down almost to 0 and the base up to almost 100. I'm using a 3-speaker set I purchased for $30. I set the Audio for audio out Variable, so the remote still controls the volume.
* I sometimes like to turn captioning on and off. There are too many steps to go through to change the Captioning setting.
But, bottom line, I am pleased with my purchase and recommend it to others.
