Pros: It has better sound quality and record times than earlier editions. (also USP output)

Cons: Sound output is so quiet from the speaker that it is hard to hear.

The Bottom Line: 
Due to the flimsy construction, tiny size with very low sound output volume, I would not recommend this device for everyday use.

I purchased the ICD-SX25 9/15/05. I was replacing an older one that I lost. The old one could reproduce a male's voice with sufficient volume to play back in a moving car.
The SX25 has such a low volume that it is essentially unusable unless you place the speaker rate next year your ear - very inconvenient.
The configuration no longer allows it to be comfortably carried in your shirt pocket due to the fact that it is nearly 5 inches long and 1 inch wide (1/2" thick). This makes it very likely that it will slide out of your pocket should you bend over unless the pocket clip is firmly engaged in your pocket. If you are wearing a polo shirt with a pocket it may be too long to engage the clip.
The buttons feel very cheap. My old ones survived many drops without a problem.
I will be returning this tomorrow so I did not have an opportunity to measure the amount of current that it uses, but it does appear that it may have difficulty operating from rechargeable batteries. Freshly recharged batteries indicated one half charge on the integrated charge meter.
I used Dragon NaturallySpeaking extensively and intended to use this to dictate documents away from the computer and upload them quickly for conversion into text. I will not have the opportunity to do this test is due this test as the other factors I mentioned make this an unacceptable unit.
