Good recorder

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Great quality recordings, very sensitive mic, small size, looks nice, can use external power source

Cons: Records only 4.5 hours in HQ mode, control button small, eats batteries fast

The Bottom Line:
The unit is great, has great sound quality, and is very flexible to use. If you need more than 4 hours of recording in HQ, get something else.

This recorder does a great job. I record a lot of live lectures, and it does a great job at that. I got the one that doesn't have the digital transcriber software, but the unit itself is very good. It has great sound quality recording, especially in the HQ mode. I never tried it on the Stereo mode because the length of recording was just too short. The control button on the side does too much and is hard to use at times, but you will get used to it if your hands aren't too big. The recorder software will convert files to WAV files, but won't convert them directly to MP3 files. You'll need another program for that. The unit also eats batteries fairly fast, so you might want to use rechargeable batteries if you record a lot. I like the fact that it has a place for your lanyard cord, also has a jack for an external microphone, which is a nice touch. But the internal microphone is more than adequate. In all, this is a good unit. It also has a nice carry case that protects it. You can even record while it is in the case if you like. I had to use the device to record clandestinely, and it worked very well. If the device would record for more than 4 hours in the High Quality mode (more like 20 or more hours), it would be a perfect device!
