The Bottom Line:
You can't go wrong. Excellent performance, features and sound quality. A superior handheld recorder compared to all the others I've tried. All for a great price. Absolutely recommended!
This handheld voice recorder beats all others I have owned before. The sound quality is excellent, crystal-clear, very little hissing or drowning out by background noise, and on the highest quality setting you get stereo sound. While the buttons and controls on the recorder are a bit overwhelming, recording, navigation and playback of sound files are quite easy. The software is stable and easy to install and use, and takes up very little hard disk space or memory. Connecting via the USB cable is a snap. Sound files from the recorder upload onto the PC lightning fast and the DVE software gives you many options for saving playback format (dvf format and various types of .wav formats) which is nice. The editing "buttons" within the DVE program are easy to use, actually much easier than on the recorder itself. This recorder is loaded with features, including many useful editing features (erase, divide/cut, combine files, switch folders etc), "directional" stereo recording, a headphone jack, a hold function to prevent accidental erasure, etc. It comes in a convenient protective case, is small and lightweight (very durable) and gets great battery life (requires 2 AA batteries). Performance has been outstanding--I have never had any problems with this recorder or the software after 8 months and lots of use.
Some small drawbacks: MP3 format is not supported, and also with all the buttons and features it is a bit confusing to use especially at first. The recording time is limited especially on the highest quality setting (only 41 minutes) and also there is no volume control for recording.
Overall however the many pros far outweigh the few small cons and this is an outstanding hand-held recorder. It is ideal for recording personal reminders and memos, short lectures, high-quality nature sounds, etc. Highly recommended--you will NOT be disappointed!!!
