Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVP-NC665P/B stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs through Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive de-interlacer (scanning) with 3:2 pulldown processing. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

No Zoom feature- otherwise perfect

Pros: Features, Coaxial and optical digital outs, great clear play, change while playing feature
Cons: Only one CON- NO ZOOM!
The Bottom Line:
Assuming you can live without the zoom feature BUY it.
If you have less than a 25" TV its ?able without zoom
Well this is a top end DVD player. It has many features including Digital optical and Digital Coaxial cable output. So you can choose which one you want to use. Check to see if your receiver is capable of utilizing these features.
Digital Coax and Digital Optical really adds that (AUDIO)theater experience- which really is what this thing is all about. (At least to me thats what DVD is about.)
The drawback that I had no idea about when I bought this item is the NO ZOOM feature!!
Kinda frustrating for me, that after all this time having a Toshiba DVD that had a 3x zoom, I now have none.
Which for anyone who doesnt know what the ZOOM feature does- it allows a dvd movie to fill your screen. Some movies come correctly sized to fit the whole screen, while others have that wide screen look. Without the zoom the ones that come without the correct fitting will have that in the center look.
For some with the HDTV and widescreen TVs this is no issue. But for me HDTV is overated. Im just in it for the sound quality. This Sony DVD hooked up with SVideo cables is sharp and crisp enough for me on a regular SANYO 31 inch tv.
This dvd also has many features related to audio and video.
REALLY a good DVD player- even without the zoom.
I hope SONY gets with it- everyone else has Zoom on their players. WHY CANT YOU?????????
