Pros: Very intuitive to use with good handset. Freeview recording handy.
Cons: Need the book to hand until you get the hang of things.
I always trust the Sony label and this is no exception. The build and recording quality are excellent and it replaces the VCR with no problems. Even the lower record levels give better quality pictures than my video player, and I never come close to using the whole capacity for recording to the HDD.
Dubbing can take some time if you change record quality to fit disc space, so I can recommend you source some 6x speed -RW dvd discs (Burn-media.co.uk have them) if you want to record to disc.
Although the machine is complex to use at first, keep the instruction booklet to hand and you will soon get the hang of things. It is clearly set out to explain any problems you may have.
The recording of Free view programmes is effortless and if you modify any programme settings, the menu takes you through very clearly what to do. I can recommend it and the price has dropped dramatically now it is around more. I paid over £400 in Jan 2006 and it is now much lower.
