The Bottom Line:
The bottom line is picture quality and steadiness and this Camcorder has both. It is a pleasure to watch (and listen)to the videos recorded on the Sony DCR TRV27.
High priced, but worth every penny...
I have been shooting video for many years now, and have used every format on the market. But when I saw the output of this relatively small camcorder, I was very impressed.
The picture is sharp, clear, and steady . The colors are true and beautiful. What more could you ask for?
There is more. You can take digital photos (stored on a memory stick), shoot in total darkness ( with that green, night vision technology ) and most importantly you can edit your video on your computer with various software - I use Studio Version 8. This is where the fun starts. With digital format, you can edit your videos like the pros and save your creations on a variety of media like CD-R, which can be played on most DVD players or any computer using
Windows Media Player.
Battery life is not a problem. The standard battery will last a couple of hours, and you can buy an extra battery that will last up to 5 hours. However, you will usually run out of tape before you run out of juice.
If you are not into computers, and simply transfer your videos to VHS, you will be pleasantly surprised. The VHS copy of the Sony digital video is as good as the original tape of any other format ( 8mm, VHS-C, VHS ).
