The features of Sony DCR-TRV240
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Great pictures, plenty of features, easy to use
Cons: Bottom loading, not the greatest when it comes to still pictures
The Bottom Line:
After all it's a SONY
Sony has always had a habit of luring people to their amazing products. Recently I bought DCR-TRV240 and believe me it is really cool.
1) The DCR-TRV240 loads from the bottom which may seem awkward but you get used to this
2) It has an ability to convert for analog to digital. It also has a provision for analog inputs which means you can record for you TV, VCR etc
3) The DCR-TRV240 has a microphone with a headphone jack, which is great for recording minute sounds.
4) The DCR-TRV240 does not have a tape window, which means you cannot view whats recording and this can be a hindrance in your recording
5) The DCR-TRV240 has a hot shoe which can be used with lighting accessories for more lighting effects.
6) The DCR-TRV240 is backward compatible with 8 and 8mm recordings. I dont know the use of this but many other reviewers have written about playing old tapes. Got to try that though.
.
7) The DCR-TRV240 does not have a spotlight but has a Super Nightshot feature. The spotlight can be used to light up low light places and at night. The Super Nightshot feature uses infrared light like the night vision glasses. While using Super nightshot the subject is illuminated more and that makes the picture clear but any fast movement makes the picture blur. Cool feature!!
8) The DCR-TRV240 has 25x optical zoom, which brings you closer to the subject. The digital Zoom is 700x.But to tell you the truth, this digital zoom feature is like a white elephant to the owner because the bigger the digital Zoom, lesser the picture quality. This is one feature I was disappointed with. Bearable till 40x - 50x
9) The Lithium batteries are amazing. The batteries display the recording time remaining. Accuracy is good
10) The colour in the DCR-TRV240 pictures is life like so you can remember your happy moments for a long time. The lighting is minimum of 4lux
11) A flip-our LCD can be used to as a viewfinder which is monochromatic. The menu on the LCD has many features.
12) It has a manual focus ability that is indeed useful and even more if you have a FISHEYE view(FISHEYE is a type of a wide-angle zoom lens). DCR-TRV240 has a focus ring on the lens.
13) Most of the buttons are one touch and are easy to use
14) Taking still pictures are possible with the DCR-TRV240 but that picture quality is not that good, I find an ordinary camera or a digital one is much better. Dont buy the DCR-TRV240 to take still pictures.
15) You can add titles for your shots, and do a lot of other useful editing functions. There are various special effects, which you can add to the pictures. You can use your computer to add more effects to your video
16) You can upload the videos to you computer, a USB cable, which comes with the camera, is used which gives you poor quality. I have not yet found a solution for this but the moment I get it, Ill write it on my review.
But before buying any other camcorder, think about this-AFTER ALL ITS A SONY. Sony is no doubt the leading electronics company in the world. Dont worry about quality, just go for it
Happy shooting!!
