The Bottom Line:
Spend a little more and buy the TRV730
I bought TRV230 because it was one of the lowest priced digital camcorders out there. BIG MISTAKE!! The picture quality is grainy especially in low light levels. The digital still is even worse. There are loads of features but what's the point when the picture quality is so bad?
Battery life is another problem. The standard battery that comes with the camera will last you about an hour when you use the LCD screen. If you use the viewfinder it'll last about 40 minutes longer but who uses black and white viewfinder when you have a LCD screen with all the pretty colors. You can buy an extended life battery for about $100 and it'll effectively double the record time.
Oh, I should also mention that the first TRV230 that I picked up was defective. I couldn't get my tape out of the darn thing because the ejector stuck. Mind you, when this happened, I just opened the box and put a brand new recommended tape in.
